Design Build Experience

As Prime Contractor, we have had the opportunity to work on a number of facilities from the initial design phase, through construction. As a full service firm, we additionally hold a contractor’s license to fully be able to carry our designs through to the construction phase. Listed below are several of our recent design-build projects.

Mental Health Building, VAMC Greater Los Angeles, CA:

Primary Care Module-5 will be expanded and relocated from third floor to the first floor. We designed for adjacency to the existing other four Primary Care Modules, and it will occupy approximately 4,800 SF on the first floor.  Affiliated to Module-5, a Mental Health Clinic was designed, to occupy approximately 1,800 SF. Plans and specifications, with cost estimates, for the renovation of new public restrooms, which are next to the main lobby and in the vicinity of Module-5, were produced, as the current facilities are inadequate.

Modular Administration Building, VAMC San Diego, CA:

US Department of Veterans Affairs, KAL Architects, Inc. was tasked with the development of 65% completion of design documents for the subsequent selection of a Design-Build general contractor for this new “swing space” administration facility at the VAMC San Diego Campus.

KAL provided multi-disciplinary professional design services to furnish Design Development and Construction Document Packages including demolition, architectural, structural, drawings, phasing plan and narrative, cost estimates, technical specifications, and related information for a 3-story modular structure with a total of 30,000 SF.
